Adrian Grain was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough after his horse fell on his head and crushed his throat, breaking four vertebrae in his neck.

Woods set up the GoFundMe page to help Grain, with the initial goal of raising £10,000 to help cover the cost of changes needed after the accident.

Adrian Grain, 71, is the assistant to partner Mark Weatherer at Norton Grange Stables in Malton, North Yorkshire.

Reporting on the incident, Karen Woods, who organises two unions that own eight of the 20 horses in the yard, said: "It was terrible. Ady was riding Leannes Lady and they were just doing a half-gallop job.

"We don't really know what happened, we think it may have happened or cut off his heel, but he pulled Ady from the front of the chair and landed on his head, completely crushing him in the throat and breaking all four vertebrae in his neck.

"Even if Ady was really struggling to speak, she wasn't going to board the air ambulance until the paramedics got their message across to the people Leanne needed to take care of and it wasn't her fault. That's all I had to say." He was worried."

Grain underwent surgery the next day and Woods said: "He's very unwell and he's still in intensive care. He has tubes all over him, so he can't speak. You can't cough, so when mucus or saliva builds up." He has what to do. Ask a nurse to come clean it up, but the last time the nurse did this, she was trying to squirm because she hadn't moved before, that's a good sign.

"We do not know if he will be paraplegic or quadriplegic, the only thing we know for sure is that he will not run anymore.
