During a horse race organized at the Saint-Cloud racecourse in Paris, he experienced an unfortunate event in this type of competition.

Decorated rider Christophe Soumillon was suspended for 60 days after elbowing rival Rossa Ryan during a race, knocking Ryan off his horse that was running at 35 mph.

Ryan was not trampled by a horse and was able to get up and walk off the trail, was admitted to an ambulance at the scene and then reported that he was not injured.

"I felt some pressure from Rossa on the outside as I tried to maintain a better position behind Ryan," Soumillon said.

"I put my elbow against him just to let him know he wasn't going in. I knew right away that I had made a mistake and I'm very sad about what happened because I hate seeing things like that."

"It wasn't a good deed on my part, I'm sorry and I want to apologize for what I did today," Soumillon said after the event.

The punishment for Christophe Soumillon will begin on October 14, so that he can be present at the prestigious Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
